The problem
A rename means opening 400 articles one by one
Freshdesk’s bulk actions move articles, change visibility, authors and tags. They don’t touch article text, and the API has no bulk update either. So a new product name or a changed URL means: open each article, Ctrl+F, edit, save, repeat.
How it works
How find & replace works
- 1
Search
Enter the old word, phrase or link. Limit it to a category, folder or language if you want.
- 2
Preview the diff
Every match is shown in context: removed text struck through, new text highlighted. Untick anything you want to skip.
- 3
Apply or undo
Type the number of changes to confirm. Each article is re-read and snapshotted first, so one click restores the whole batch.
Why it matters
What you get
Titles, bodies and SEO fields
One search covers the places an old name hides, including meta titles and descriptions.
Undo the batch, not just the last edit
Freshdesk’s API has no versions endpoint, so TidyKB keeps its own snapshot of every article before it writes.
A second key, and a stop rule
Writing needs a separate Freshdesk key with edit rights that you switch on yourself, and a batch stops after three errors in a row.
Before and after
Today in Freshdesk, and with TidyKB
Today in Freshdesk
- Today: Open each article, Ctrl+F, edit, save, repeat 400 times
- Today: Miss the old name in SEO titles and translations
- Today: No way back if a batch goes wrong
With TidyKB
- One search across titles, bodies and SEO fields
- Every change previewed as a diff before it is written
- Snapshot per article, undo the whole batch
Safety
Nothing changes until you say so.
Freshdesk’s API has no versions and no bulk update, so TidyKB re-reads and compares every article immediately before it writes, snapshots what Freshdesk returns afterwards and undoes a batch in one click.
How we handle your API keyFAQ
Questions, answered
Does Freshdesk have find and replace for knowledge base articles?
No. Bulk actions in the knowledge base cover moving articles, visibility, author and tags, not the text inside articles. The browser’s Ctrl+F only finds text on the page you have open.
Can I do it through the Freshdesk API?
One article per call: there is no bulk update endpoint and no versions endpoint. You need a script, rate-limit handling and your own backup of every article before you write. The guide shows how.
Will it change translations too?
Only if you include that language. In Freshdesk each translation is its own version of the article, so TidyKB lists every language separately and you choose.
Can I undo after publishing?
Yes. Every article is snapshotted before it is changed, and one click restores the whole batch from those snapshots.
